Research Group

The laboratory manager will work in the research unit for Molecular Pharmaceutical Technology. The group has an interdisciplinary approach and combines computational chemistry and bioinformatics with cell and molecular biology, biopharmacy, pharmacy, and physical chemistry to find new ways to predict and define rate-limiting barriers for absorption and organ distribution of various drugs. We expect our research to provide insights into new mechanisms of drug uptake, disposition, and delivery, which will support the development of new therapeutic strategies for effective oral drug delivery. Job Responsibilities

As a laboratory manager, you will play a central role in supporting the research activities within the research unit for molecular pharmaceutical technology. The research unit currently comprises about 40-50 staff members and is an international and multidisciplinary environment. The operations include a wet lab with formulation technologies (e.g., tools for making emulsions, liposomes, inorganic nanoparticles, microfluidics, 3D printers), solid-state characterization methods (e.g., XRD, FTIR, Raman, DSC, TGA, DLS), analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC and LC-MS), in vitro characterization methods to study dissolution, permeability, and digestion, and a cell lab including a clean room.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Operation and maintenance of the laboratory: you will be responsible for ensuring that the laboratory is in good condition, including daily supervision of equipment and facilities as well as planning for maintenance or renovations. Organizing maintenance visits for instruments. Participating in planning future laboratory needs. Supporting external and internal reporting regarding the laboratory's operations.
• Management of consumables and chemicals, including ensuring that common consumables are available and inventorying chemicals and instruments.
• Ensuring that the laboratory's operations comply with applicable safety regulations, chemical handling, and occupational health and safety legislation. Responsible for risk assessments, maintaining safety documentation, and training in laboratory procedures. These tasks may also be carried out at an overarching level for the department, e.g., in the role of safety representative.
• Introducing new staff to the laboratory's routines and safety regulations.
• Administrative assistance with the organization of seminars, group days, conferences, and certain activities within the group's teaching (e.g., preparation of course laboratories).
• Providing technical and practical support to research staff, PhD students, and students in their laboratory work, e.g., sample preparation for large laboratory studies or development of new laboratory methods.

Qualifications

Applications from highly motivated candidates are welcome. A Master's degree or equivalent knowledge in pharmacy, drug development, or another relevant field is required. Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are necessary. Previous experience as a laboratory manager/laboratory head and coordination in a large multidisciplinary research environment is a requirement. Good theoretical and technical knowledge of the various technologies, characterization, and in vitro methods listed above is highly meritorious. We expect you to want to take responsibility, be able to manage multiple activities simultaneously, and be highly safety-conscious. You must have the ability to take initiatives and work both independently and in a team, as well as have good organizational skills and structure in your work.
